Moriarty-Edgewood School District Becomes Truly Tobacco-Free

On October 16
th, Moriarty-Edgewood joined five other New Mexico school districts, which have adopted a 100% comprehensive tobacco-free policy, including Roswell, Las Cruces, Pecos, Central Consolidated, and Los Alamos.
“We have to educate our students and parents on how damaging E-cigs and liquid nicotine is… With our collaborative work with Partnership for a Healthy Torrance Community and 24/7 we can curb this dangerous trend,” said Teresa Salazar, Superintendent of Moriarty-Edgewood School District.
A youth leader from the Evolvement program at Atrisco Heritage Academy, a high school located in the neighboring Albuquerque Public School District, spoke at the meeting to highlight the importance of this new policy and thank the school board for its commitment to Moriarty-Edgewood students.
Under a truly comprehensive policy, tobacco use, possession, and distribution is prohibited:
- by anyone
- anywhere
- at anytime
- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
